Powering Progress Across Kano

The kano state Rural Electricity Board,created by the then military Governor,Alhaji Audu Bako,was established in the year 1973. This is notwithstanding,the contribution of other electric power controlling authorities like the Nigerian Electricity Suppy Corporation (NESCO). IN 1972,the Federal Government decided to relax NEPA'S Monopoly so as to enable and encourage state Governments get permissions to generate and distribute electricity to places within their areas of jurisdiction,subject to compliance with national technical Specification,and provided no state monopoly was instituted in any area.

1973

The Kano State Rural Electricity Board is officially established to focus on rural electrification projects.

2005-2007

Under the leadership of MD Muhammad Ali Wudil, the board oversaw significant rural electrification projects. [2]

2015

Launch of the first solar mini-grid pilot program to explore renewable energy solutions for off-grid areas.

2025

Introduction of the Transformer Digital Registry to streamline fault reporting and enhance operational efficiency.

2025

Launched a major initiative to distribute 500 new transformers across all 44 Local Government Areas, significantly boosting power in rural communities. [8, 19]
